Forum BACKGROUND

Through the reform and opening-up for more than thirty years, China’s economy has revived and leaped to the second largest economy in the world, which is one of the greatest changes in the world’s history. After the baptism of the global financial crisis, Chinese enterprises have increasingly realized that the growth mode which based on low-cost labor force, resources and capital will be unsustainable, so that the sustainable development of enterprises are facing serious challenges. The rising up of the price of land and industrial raw materials like oil and iron ore as well as the increasing of the labor force cost and the exchange rate fluctuations have all increased the urgency of transformation of the economic growth mode and industrial upgrading. Whether China could speed up the transformation of the economic growth mode to come to the sustainable development of the economy is another important choice which will determine the destiny of China modernization.

2010, for many Chinese enterprises, is very crucial. They are carrying out substantial transformation: fast climbing up to the upstream of the value chain, setting foot in more parts of the value chain and striving to improve the quality and attractiveness of the products and services. At the same time they are rapidly enhancing the necessary capabilities to fulfill the needs of fast development, such as investing for innovation, listening to the views of customers, paying more attention on the protection of intellectual property. More importantly, they are establishing the talent-driven organization to enable the enterprises with global competitiveness and flexible adaptability.

In the year 2010, the enterprises should change the focus on facing the crisis to maximize the benefit of the economy recovery. Human resources managers should grasp the key points as below: how to make a balance between the fast growing business strategies and human resources management; how to attract and retain more talents in a more intense scramble of talents; how to maximize the benefit of human capital investment l; how to effective the talent risk management and so on.
